Prop Design:

Scarface Prop
Design Collection

After taking part in Annie Atkins’ graphic props workshop in Dublin, I came away wanting to put what I’d learned into practice by building my own collection of props from the ground up.

I chose Brian De Palma’s Scarface, focusing on Tony Montana’s arrival in 1980s Miami. It gave me the opportunity to dig into a very different kind of design process, where historical research, storytelling and tiny details are just as important as the graphics themselves.

The collection brings together immigration documents, identification, hotel ephemera, cigar packaging, matchbooks and printed details. Each piece was researched, designed, printed and finished to feel like an object that could genuinely belong in Tony’s world, from period typography and bureaucracy to stamps, signatures, paper stocks, ageing and print imperfections.

Rather than simply recreating props seen on screen, I wanted to expand the world of Scarface, imagining the objects that could have existed just outside the frame.
